Affinity Healthcare was the third largest nursing home in Norfolk County during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) show.

The center offered 177 beds—64 above the county average at that time—and cared for an average of 117.4 residents that quarter.

CMS assigned Affinity Healthcare an overall 2 out of 5 rating, which was lower than the Massachusetts nursing home average of 3.1.

Royal Braintree Nursing and Rehabilitation Center led the county during the quarter with 204 beds, followed by Ellis Nursing Home, which offered 191 beds.

Affinity Healthcare accumulated $27,648 in two fines and was subject to two penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Norfolk County had a total of 24 for-profit nursing homes as of the same period.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the nation’s older adult population keeps increasing as the number of younger Americans declines. Between 2020 and 2024, the population age 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The country’s older population has grown rapidly over the past century, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study reports nearly half of this age group, about 28 million people, could need long-term services and support. The same study forecasts that over one-third may ultimately require a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
