Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, representing Massachusetts’ 7th district since 2019, recently shared her views on various pressing issues through a series of tweets. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1974 and now residing in Boston, Pressley has been an active voice in the U.S. Congress after succeeding Mike Capuano.
On May 7, 2025, Pressley addressed the wage disparity faced by working mothers. She stated that “Moms who work full-time all year are paid just 74 cents for every $1 paid to dads.” She emphasized that this gap is even more pronounced for mothers of color and advocated for policies such as #PaidLeave, the Paycheck Fairness Act, and the ERA to eliminate these disparities.
Later that day, she commented on healthcare policy by stating “This is a damning confirmation of what we’ve been saying: Republicans want to rip away healthcare from millions to fund more tax cuts for billionaires.” She strongly opposed any actions against Medicaid with the statement “Hands. Off. Medicaid.”
In another tweet on May 7, Pressley highlighted issues related to tariffs affecting essential baby goods. She mentioned her interaction with Secretary Scott Bessent regarding Trump-era tariffs making it difficult for families to afford necessities like car seats. In her words: “Baby goods like car seats aren’t optional, they’re essential.” She urged Secretary Bessent to expedite reviewing these tariffs due to their impact on families.
Ayanna Pressley’s political career began in the Massachusetts House of Representatives before moving on to Congress where she continues advocating for equitable policies.
