Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed issues of wage inequality, government funding for nutrition programs, and humanitarian concerns in Gaza through a series of social media posts on October 9, 2025.
In a post from that day, Pressley highlighted the persistent wage gap affecting Latina workers, stating: “Latinas earn only 51 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men. This wage gap isn’t just unfair, it’s an injustice, and Latinas deserve equal pay for equal work. #LatinaEqualPayDay” (October 9, 2025).
Later the same day, Pressley commented on the impact of a government shutdown on federal nutrition assistance programs: “WIC is a lifeline that helps new parents keep their babies fed. But thanks to Republicans’ government shutdown, WIC funds could run out in a matter of weeks. Republicans must re-open the government NOW and stop playing with people’s lives.” (October 9, 2025).
In another post concerning humanitarian issues abroad, she wrote: “For the sake of humanity, I pray this holds. It is so far past time to end this genocide, free the hostages, and surge food, water, and baby formula to starving families in Gaza.” (October 9, 2025).
Ayanna Pressley has served in Congress since 2019 after replacing Mike Capuano and previously held office in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Cincinnati in 1974, she currently resides in Boston. Pressley’s recent posts reflect her ongoing advocacy for economic equity, support for federal nutrition programs such as WIC, and calls for humanitarian relief during international crises.
