Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, announced that the House of Representatives has passed an extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti.
On April 16, 2026, Pressley wrote: “IT’S OFFICIAL: The House has passed our extension of TPS for Haiti. This win wouldn’t be possible without the strength & organizing of our movement to defend our Haitian neighbors. To those in the #MA7 & beyond, this is for you. The Senate must pick this up without delay.”
The following day, she added details about the vote: “The House passed our extension of TPS for Haiti with a 224 vote victory of Democrats & Republicans alike. This has been a long-fought battle to defend our Haitian neighbors & our communities, and we’re not letting up. The Senate must take action without delay.”
On April 17, 2026, Pressley also posted a message reflecting on her relationship with someone named Rumeysa: “Rumeysa, saying goodbye is deeply bittersweet. From the moment we met behind the wall, I felt an immediate kinship with you. Even in the midst of trauma, fear, and uncertainty, your light shone through. You spoke first not about yourself, but about the women detained alongside”
Ayanna Pressley succeeded Mike Capuano in representing Massachusetts’s 7th district in Congress starting in 2019 and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Cincinnati in 1974 and currently residing in Boston at age 49, she continues to advocate on issues impacting her constituents and broader communities.
