Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to address issues ranging from immigration detention conditions to support for women entrepreneurs and local artists.
On March 7, 2026, Pressley posted about the death of Emmanuel Damas while under ICE detainment. She wrote, “Emmanuel Damas’ death was entirely preventable. He died from sepsis. That started as a tooth infection while under ICE detainment. I’m urging DHS for a full investigation into his passing, and demanding proper medical care for all who remain behind the walls of these inhumane” (March 7, 2026).
Later that day, she expressed appreciation for Boston-based Black and brown creators: “I’m grateful for our Boston-based Black & brown creators. I’ve always been a firm believer that art & politics are deeply interconnected. And that’s because our creators have the power to help uplift the issues we fight for, why justice matters, spark empathy & more.” (March 7, 2026).
On March 9, 2026, Pressley addressed economic challenges faced by women-owned businesses: “For too long, women-owned businesses have been underestimated & under-resourced. That’s why the work of @AWBC_USA has been so instrumental. And with Trump’s chaotic financial policies spiraling the labor market, we need to be fiercely advocating for women entrepreneurs.” (March 9, 2026).
Pressley has served in Congress since replacing Mike Capuano in 2019 and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Cincinnati in 1974 and now residing in Boston, she continues to focus on advocacy related to healthcare within detention centers, support for local artists of color, and advancing opportunities for women entrepreneurs.
