Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who has represented Massachusetts’ 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2019, shared her thoughts on several issues through a series of tweets.
On April 24, 2025, Pressley conveyed her condolences following the death of Molly McGovern. In her message, she described McGovern as someone who “lived life authentically and gave others courage to do the same. Molly was a light and force for good. She was deeply loving and kind. She loved her family.” Pressley extended her condolences to her friends, including representative Jim McGovern, expressing that “Molly will be missed.”
Later the same day, Pressley highlighted concerns regarding civil liberties in a tweet about kidnappings. She stated, “Rümeysa & Mahmoud’s kidnappings aren’t an anomaly — they’re the latest in an alarming pattern to stifle civil liberties. Silencing dissent is unlawful, unjust, and authoritarian through and through. And we will not allow this abuse of power to go unchecked.”
On April 25, 2025, Pressley reiterated her commitment to community and defiance against dictatorial actions. She emphasized the spirit of her district by stating, “The #MA7 is not simply a congressional district—it is a community. And in the face of a dictator, we resist—because the only way to beat a dictator is with defiance.” Pressley thanked participants who joined her in Somerville for a town hall event with Mayor Katjana Ballantyne.
Ayanna Pressley was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1974, and currently resides in Boston. She has been a prominent figure in Massachusetts politics, initially serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives before joining Congress.
