Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, representing Massachusetts’ 7th district, has recently voiced her thoughts on important social and political matters via social media. Pressley, who has been in office since 2019 after succeeding Mike Capuano, has engaged in honoring past movements, celebrating cultural heritages, and questioning recent government actions.
On May 1, 2025, Pressley reflected on a historical march conducted 60 years prior by ancestors from Roxbury to Boston Common. She stated, “They marched to demand civil rights, human dignity, & our collective liberation.” Pressley commemorated this event alongside @EmbraceBOS, @OfficialMLK3, and local leaders, emphasizing the importance of applying the lessons learned to current struggles.
On May 2, 2025, Pressley acknowledged the commencement of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In a tweet, she remarked, “As a @CAPAC member, I’m proud to celebrate the history and contributions of such a vibrant community in the #MA7 and beyond.” As a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, she extended her celebration to her district and beyond.
Later on May 2, 2025, Pressley criticized a recent executive order by former President Donald Trump targeting the Smithsonian Institution, labeling it as an attempt to “whitewash our history.” She declared, “Trump’s executive order attacking the Smithsonian and attempting to whitewash our history is wrong & illegal.” Pressley, alongside Representative Paul Tonko, called for an investigation by the Smithsonian Office of the Inspector General to assess the order’s impact and safeguard the integrity of the museums.
Ayanna Pressley continues her commitment to civil rights, heritage recognition, and historical integrity. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1974, the congresswoman currently resides in Boston and maintains her focus on representing Massachusetts’s 7th District effectively.
