Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used her social media platform to address concerns over government shutdowns and their impact on healthcare and federal workers.
On October 4, 2025, Pressley referenced her role as co-founder of a task force focused on Project 2025, stating: “As co-founder of the Stop Project 2025 Task Force, I take no joy in saying ‘I told you so.'”
Two days later, on October 6, she highlighted comments from a healthcare worker named Catharyne regarding the effects of Republican actions on the healthcare system. In her post, Pressley wrote: “Catharyne, a healthcare worker, made it plain:
Republicans created a healthcare crisis that will cause hospitals to close, healthcare costs to jump, & lives to be put at risk.
But instead of working with Democrats to address that harm, Republicans have shut down the government.”
Later that same day, Pressley addressed the broader consequences of government shutdowns for service workers and announced legislative action with Senator Tina Smith. She posted: “Government shutdowns are destabilizing events with devastating consequences, especially for low-wage service workers.
Republicans shut down the government, so @SenTinaSmith & I are introducing a bill to ensure federal contractors receive back pay when the government reopens.”
Ayanna Pressley has served in Congress since 2019 after replacing Mike Capuano and previously held office in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Cincinnati in 1974 and currently residing in Boston at age 49, she has consistently advocated for issues affecting her constituents and national policy debates.
