Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media account criticizing Republican actions amid an impending government shutdown.
On September 30, 2025, Pressley wrote: “Proud to stand with families & workers who’d be harmed by a Republican government shutdown. It’s shameful that Republicans would rather shut down the government than address the healthcare crisis they created. Democrats are ready to fund the government & protect our families.”
Later that evening, she continued her criticism with another post: “Tonight, the United States is barreling towards a manufactured Trump Government Shutdown.” (September 30, 2025).
Early the next morning on October 1, Pressley stated: “By shutting down the government, Trump and Republicans are threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions of families. I’ll keep fighting to reopen the government, mitigate the Republican-caused healthcare crisis, and protect our communities. My full statement:”
Ayanna Pressley has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Mike Capuano and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. She was born in Cincinnati in 1974 and currently resides in Boston.
