Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to address issues related to childhood trauma from immigration enforcement and medical hair loss.
On February 24, 2026, Pressley posted about her actions on the House floor: “I rose on the House floor for Juan Nicolás, Daphne, Susej, Ailany, Liam, & Ashley. Children traumatized by Trump & ICE’s campaign of childhood abuse, neglect, & terror. They are my honorary #SOTU guests tonight because childhood should be a birthright—not a privilege afforded”.
The following day, February 25, 2026, she explained her decision to boycott the State of the Union address: “I have no regard for a man who rips parents away from children, deports families, & imprisons our babies. That’s why I’m boycotting today’s #SOTU & instead shedding light on the stories of our children terrorized by ICE. Because our children deserve a childhood free from fear.”
Later that same day, Pressley discussed her personal experience with alopecia and legislative efforts to support those affected by medical hair loss: “As someone living with Alopecia, I know what it is to endure a vulnerable transformation not of my choosing. For many impacted by medical hair loss, unaffordable wigs deepen this hardship. Our WIGS bill will expand coverage for wigs, relieving financial barriers &”.
Ayanna Pressley has served in Congress since 2019 after replacing Mike Capuano and previously held office in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Cincinnati in 1974 and currently residing in Boston at age 49, she continues to focus on advocacy for marginalized communities through both legislative action and public statements.
