Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has announced a series of legislative advances regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti through her official Twitter account.
On April 15, 2026, Pressley stated: “BREAKING: I took to the House floor to force a vote on extending Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. We won the first important vote in this process, and now we’re a step closer to getting this done. The House must move with urgency and pass this legislation without delay.”
The following day, she provided an update on the progress of her initiative: “ICYMI: My discharge petition to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti has advanced in the House. Democrats, Republicans, & Independents voted for it because they know it’s good policy & the right thing to do. Tomorrow, the House must pass this bill & help save lives.” This tweet was posted on April 16, 2026.
Later that same day, Pressley reported further advancement: “UPDATE: My discharge petition to extend TPS for Haiti just passed with bipartisan support, the second vote needed to get this done & defend our Haitian neighbors. I made one final appeal to my colleagues before we vote on final passage of the underlying bill later today.”
Ayanna Pressley has represented Massachusetts’s 7th District since 2019 after succeeding Mike Capuano. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Cincinnati in 1974 and currently residing in Boston at age 49, Pressley’s legislative focus often includes immigration and humanitarian issues.
Temporary Protected Status is a form of humanitarian relief granted by the U.S. government that allows individuals from designated countries experiencing armed conflict or environmental disaster to live and work temporarily in the United States.
