Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Massachusetts’ 7th district since 2019, recently took to social media to address several important issues. In a series of tweets, she highlighted the return of a constituent, Rümeysa Öztürk, and participated in an event addressing gun violence.
On May 10, 2025, Pressley announced the return of Rümeysa Öztürk to Massachusetts with a welcoming message. She stated: “Tune in as we welcome Rümeysa Öztürk, our constituent, an accomplished scholar, and a beloved community member, back to Massachusetts.”
The following day on May 11, Pressley further commented on Öztürk’s situation by expressing her commitment to justice for her constituent. She tweeted: “Rümeysa Öztürk is back home in the #MA7 where she belongs. Her unlawful detention was shameful. We won’t stop until she’s fully exonerated, her visa is restored, and she’s free to keep serving our community.”
Also on May 11, Pressley extended her thoughts on Mother’s Day towards families affected by homicide during an annual event focused on peace and healing from gun violence. She shared: “Happy Mother’s Day! Today I’m thinking of the families who’ve lost loved ones to homicide. TY @LDBpeaceInst for convening us at your annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace, a beloved tradition & reminder of the Work that remains to address gun violence & advance healing.”
Ayanna Pressley was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1974 and currently resides in Boston.
