Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, representing Massachusetts’ 7th district since 2019, has recently taken to social media to address various legislative issues. Her posts reflect ongoing concerns about funding for road safety and healthcare services, particularly Medicaid.
On May 12, 2025, Pressley highlighted potential threats to road safety funding by former President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk. She expressed her commitment to protecting these funds, emphasizing their importance in enhancing safety for cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Bike Caucus, she stated: “Donald Trump & Elon Musk are threatening road safety funding already appropriated by Congress.”
In a subsequent post on May 13, 2025, Pressley shared her involvement with a vigil organized by Caring Across Generations. The event featured advocates and families who depend on Medicaid sharing their personal stories and concerns regarding potential cuts proposed by Republicans. Pressley underscored the critical nature of Medicaid as a lifeline for many Americans: “For 24 hours, @CaringAcrossGen held a vigil with advocates & families that rely on Medicaid.”
Later that day, she addressed what she described as a Republican “budget sham,” criticizing its impact on reproductive healthcare services. According to Pressley, the budget proposal would significantly reduce Medicaid funding and defund Planned Parenthood while exacerbating the maternal morbidity crisis: “Republicans’ budget sham is a direct attack on reproductive healthcare.”
Ayanna Pressley was born in Cincinnati in 1974 and now resides in Boston. Before serving in Congress from Massachusetts’s 7th District since replacing Mike Capuano in 2019, she served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
