The Boston Bruins announced on March 24 that forward James Hagens has signed an American Hockey League (AHL) amateur tryout agreement with the team. General Manager Don Sweeney said, “We’re very excited to have James join the Bruins organization and take this next step. James is an important part of our future, and this is a great opportunity for him to get immediate experience at the professional level in Providence and continue his development, while keeping all options open.”

Hagens will participate in practice with the Providence Bruins at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Tuesday, March 24, at 10:15 a.m.

The signing is notable as Hagens was selected by Boston in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft. At age 19, he played for Boston College during the current season, leading all Hockey East skaters in scoring with 23 goals and 24 assists over 34 games. He also led his team with six game-winning goals, two hat tricks, and recorded a total of 133 shots.

Hagens earned recognition on the conference’s All-Rookie Team after collecting 37 points—11 goals and 26 assists—during the previous season. Over two years at Boston College from 2024 to 2026, he appeared in a total of 71 games and scored a combined total of 34 goals along with contributing fifty assists.

Before joining college hockey, Hagens spent two seasons between 2022 and 2024 playing for the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP), where he registered seventy-two goals and one hundred fifteen assists for one hundred eighty-seven points—the fifth-most in program history.

With this agreement, both Hagens and the Bruins organization aim to further his development while evaluating future opportunities within professional hockey.
