Boston College baseball advanced in the Athens Regional with an 8-4 win over LIU on May 30. The victory brings the Eagles’ record to 37-22, tying the program’s single-season wins record.
Tyler Mudd delivered a standout performance, pitching 7.1 innings and striking out 10 batters. He became the first Boston College pitcher this season to reach double-digit strikeouts in a game. Mudd’s outing was also the longest by a BC starter in their last four NCAA Tournament appearances and marked the second-most strikeouts for a BC pitcher during that span.
Offensively, Carter Hendrickson went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs batted in. Jack Toomey homered for the second consecutive game, while Julio Solier contributed two doubles for Boston College.
The Eagles began scoring early when Solier doubled and later scored on a single by Nick Wang in the first inning. In the second inning, Boston College added three more runs, highlighted by Hendrickson’s home run after back-to-back sacrifice bunts moved runners into scoring position. The fourth inning saw another three-run surge with bases loaded; Solier was hit by a pitch to bring in one run before Ty Mainolfi singled home two more runs.
Toomey extended BC’s lead with a solo home run in the fifth inning. LIU responded with solo and three-run homers from Joseph Durso and Ryan Rivera, respectively, but could not close the gap as Kyle Kipp came on in relief to preserve Boston College’s advantage.
Boston College will play again tomorrow at noon against either Georgia or Liberty.
