Boston College Baseball defeated the University of Massachusetts 11-1 in the first round of the Beanpot on April 7. The game took place at Chestnut Hill, with Boston College improving its record to 23-11 for the season.

The win allows Boston College to advance in the annual Beanpot tournament. The team is now set to face Dartmouth in their next matchup.

Luke D’Ancona made his first collegiate start for Boston College, pitching two innings and recording strikeouts while allowing one earned run. Chase Hartsell followed as a reliever, striking out two batters in one inning. Gavin Soares pitched an inning without giving up a run, and Jacob Burnham threw four scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.

UMass scored first with a sacrifice fly in the top of the opening inning. However, Boston College responded quickly by scoring five runs in their half of the first inning. Jack Toomey tied the game with a single, Nick Wang scored on a wild pitch, and Carter Hendrickson was brought home by Luke Gallo’s triple before Gallo himself scored on another wild pitch.

Boston College continued adding runs throughout the game. Julio Solier was hit by a pitch and later scored on Wang’s RBI for his 40th run batted in this season. In the fifth inning, Danny Surowiec grounded out to bring home Toomey before Cesar Gonzalez doubled home two more runs. Hendrickson ended the game early with a walk-off single that drove in Wang and Ty Mainolfi after they executed another double steal.

Looking ahead, Boston College will host Dartmouth tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., continuing their busy schedule.
