Boston College Baseball falls to Houston 5-1 at Puerto Rico Challenge

Boston College Baseball lost to Houston 5-1 on Saturday afternoon during the Puerto Rico Challenge in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The defeat brings Boston College’s record to 1-1 while Houston remains undefeated at 2-0.

Sean Hard started for the Eagles, making his first appearance since March 2024. He pitched two innings, allowed one hit, and struck out one batter. Hard ended the second inning with a double play involving Sean Martinez, Julio Solier, and Nick Wang.

Houston scored first in the top of the third inning with an RBI single off freshman pitcher Luke D’Ancona, who came in after Hard. Boston College tied the game in the bottom of the third when Ty Mainolfi singled to short center field and Carter Hendrickson scored from second base.

The Cougars regained the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run RBI double, bringing the score to 3-1. Houston added runs in both the seventh and ninth innings, extending their lead to 5-1. After scoring in the third inning, Boston College was unable to advance any runners past second base for the remainder of the game.

Boston College will finish its participation in the Puerto Rico Challenge by facing Washington on Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. AST in Ponce.
