Boston College baseball loses to Virginia in series finale on March 29

Boston College Baseball lost to ninth-ranked Virginia by a score of 3-1 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, March 29.

The loss brings Boston College’s record to 20-9 overall and 8-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Virginia improved its record to 22-7 overall and 7-5 in conference games.

Brady Miller started for the Eagles, pitching seven innings and matching his career high while striking out nine batters, which was also a personal best. Relief pitchers Gavin Soares, John Kwiatkowski, and Luke D’Ancona finished the game for Boston College, combining for two innings pitched and allowing three earned runs.

Boston College took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning after loading the bases with walks by Jack Toomey and Carter Hendrickson as well as an infield single from Luke Gallo. Toomey scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Cesar Gonzalez. However, Virginia responded with three runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Cavaliers loaded the bases with no outs and scored through a bases-loaded walk, a sacrifice fly, and a single.

The Eagles are scheduled to return to action tomorrow at home against Maine at 3:00 p.m.
