Boston College’s baseball team will start its 2026 season by traveling to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Challenge. The Eagles are set to face Seton Hall, Houston, and Washington over a three-day stretch.

The games against Seton Hall and Washington will take place in Ponce at Estadio Francisco Montaner on February 13 and 15, both scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST. The matchup with Houston is slated for February 14 at Estadio Yldefonso Solá Morales in Caguas, beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST.

This tournament marks Boston College’s first-ever games against both Houston and Washington. In contrast, the Eagles have played Seton Hall 46 times previously, all during their tenure in the Big East Conference. Seton Hall leads that series 26-20, though Boston College has won four of the last five meetings.

On Friday, A.J. Colarusso is expected to pitch for Boston College against Steven Svenson of Seton Hall, who was named Big East Preseason Pitcher of the Year. The Pirates concluded their previous season with a record of 24-30 overall and 10-11 in conference play. Magnus Krieger returns as Seton Hall’s leading hitter from last year; they also bring back four of their top five most-used pitchers.

Saturday’s contest will feature Sean Hard on the mound for Boston College facing Kendall Hoffman of Houston. This game marks Hard’s return after missing a year and a half due to injury; his last appearance was March 17, 2024. Houston finished last season at 30-25 overall (12-17 in Big 12 play) and brings back four of its top five hitters along with three key pitchers.

Starters for Sunday’s game against Washington have not been announced yet. The Huskies ended their previous season with a record of 29-28 (17-13 Big Ten), returning three out of their top five hitters and three pitchers who logged significant innings.

Boston College introduced fourteen new players this fall—six transfers and eight first-year students—to bolster its roster ahead of the new season. Transfers include Sean Martinez, Ty Mainolfi, John D Mitchell, Carter Hendrickson, Aidan Gelbsman, Drew Grumbles, and Ethan Marzo; first-year additions are Gabe Malaret, Luke Gallo, Easton Masse, Chase Hartsell, Zach Fronio, Logan Berenson, Luke D’Ancona, and Sean Budis.

In preseason rankings released by D1 Baseball:
– Ty Mainolfi is listed as the No.36 third baseman nationally.
– Carter Hendrickson ranks No.72 among outfielders.
– A.J. Colarusso and Brady Miller are ranked No.89 and No.144 respectively among starting pitchers.
– Gavin Soares holds the No.16 spot among relief pitchers nationwide.

Following their games in Puerto Rico, Boston College will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina for four games against Northwestern and Cornell before hosting Merrimack on February 24 for their home opener.
