Boston College’s baseball team is set to compete in the Hub City Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina this weekend. The Eagles will play against Cornell and Northwestern, facing each team twice over three days.
The tournament schedule begins with Boston College playing Cornell at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, they face Northwestern at the same time. Sunday features a doubleheader, with the Eagles taking on Cornell at 10:00 a.m., followed by a game against Northwestern at 2:00 p.m.
This marks the first meeting between Boston College and Cornell in program history. Against Northwestern, Boston College trails 3-1 in their all-time series, with previous games played at neutral sites in Florida. Their last encounter was in 2016 when Boston College won 6-3.
For Friday’s matchup, A.J. Colarusso will start for Boston College against Huxley Holcombe of Cornell. Colarusso struck out five batters over four innings during his first start of the season, contributing to a win over Seton Hall. This game will be Cornell’s season opener; last year they finished with a record of 12-22. Holcombe returns as a junior after posting a 3-2 record in 2025 and is joined by returning hitters including Caden Wildman.
On Saturday, Sean Hard will pitch for Boston College against Ryan Weaver from Northwestern. Hard recently returned from injury and pitched two innings last weekend. Northwestern opened its season with one win and two losses against Rice University; Weaver threw seven scoreless innings with three strikeouts during his debut. Jackson Freeman led Northwestern offensively last weekend.
Sunday’s games feature Ethan Hamill pitching for Cornell—he missed last season due to injury but had previous success—and Matt Kouser starting for Northwestern; Kouser has allowed only one earned run across four innings so far this year.
Boston College started its season strong during an opening weekend tournament in Puerto Rico, earning wins over Seton Hall and Washington—including a shutout victory over Washington by a score of 10-0. Key performances came from Julio Solier and Carter Hendrickson at the plate, as well as pitchers Tyler Mudd, Gavin Soares, and Chase Hartsell.
In preseason rankings released by D1 Baseball, five Eagles received recognition: Ty Mainolfi was ranked among top third basemen nationally; Carter Hendrickson among outfielders; A.J. Colarusso and Brady Miller among starting pitchers; and Gavin Soares was listed as one of the top relief pitchers.
The trip to Spartanburg also serves as a homecoming for Head Coach Todd Interdonato along with assistant Holden Wilder and Gunnar Johnson—all previously affiliated with Wofford College before joining Boston College.
After this weekend’s invitational, Boston College continues its road trip on February 27th against FGCU in Fort Myers, Florida.
