Boston College baseball’s 2026 season ended on May 31 with an 8-3 loss to Liberty in the second round elimination game of the NCAA Athens Regional. The Eagles, seeded No. 2, finished their year with a record of 37-23, matching the most wins in program history set previously in 2005 and 2023.
The team’s appearance marked its 13th time competing in the NCAA Tournament and its first since 2023. Brady Miller tied his career high for strikeouts with nine during the game. Ty Mainolfi hit his second home run of the season, while Gunnar Johnson contributed an RBI single.
Mainolfi gave Boston College an early lead with a solo home run to deep right center field in the first inning. The Eagles extended their lead to two runs in the next inning following Johnson’s RBI single. Miller started strong on the mound, pitching back-to-back perfect innings and striking out four batters.
Liberty responded by scoring five runs in the third inning after loading the bases at the start of that frame. Riley DeCandido drove home two runners with a single to right field before a failed pickoff attempt allowed Tanner Marsh to score. Jordan Jaffe added an RBI triple, and Nick Barone capped off Liberty’s scoring surge with an RBI double.
Liberty continued to build its lead by hitting solo home runs over each of the next two innings and adding another run in the seventh for an 8-2 advantage. In Boston College’s final effort, Mainolfi picked up his second RBI of the day when he singled Esteban Garcia across home plate during the ninth inning.
