This total also tied the Atlantic Coast Conference record and included eight steals in the second inning alone, matching an NCAA record for most stolen bases in a single inning.
A.J. Colarusso started on the mound for Boston College and set another milestone with his 44th career start, a new program high. Colarusso allowed only one run on three hits and recorded four strikeouts over seven innings to earn his first complete game.
Offensively, Luke Gallo led Boston College by going three-for-four at the plate with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Jack Toomey contributed three hits and three stolen bases, while Ty Mainolfi added two hits, two RBI, and three steals of his own. The Eagles quickly took control of the game by scoring three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second.
Duke managed one run in the fourth inning but could not close the gap as Boston College continued to add runs throughout the contest. Cesar Gonzalez delivered an RBI single after Duke’s lone run, while Carter Hendrickson stole home during a fifth-inning rally that extended BC’s lead further.
Looking ahead, Boston College will face Duke again tomorrow afternoon for game two of their series.
