Boston College baseball shuts out No. 9 Virginia with 17-0 win

Boston College Baseball defeated ninth-ranked Virginia, 17-0, in the second game of their series on March 28.

The win is significant for Boston College as it marks a strong performance against a top-ranked opponent in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The shutout improves Boston College’s record to 20-8 overall and 8-3 in conference play, while Virginia falls to 21-7 and 6-5 in the ACC.

Tyler Mudd started for the Eagles and pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits to earn his second win of the season. Kyle Kipp finished the game by throwing two scoreless innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout.

Boston College began scoring early with five runs in the first inning. Julio Solier led off with an infield single and later scored when Jack Toomey beat out an infield single. Carter Hendrickson grounded out to bring home another run, followed by Luke Gallo’s RBI single. Kyle Wolff capped off the inning with a home run.

Nick Wang added a solo home run in the second inning, matching his career high of eleven homers for a season. The Eagles continued to build their lead throughout the game, including seven runs scored during a fifth-inning rally.

The teams will meet again tomorrow for the series finale at Chestnut Hill.
