Boston College Baseball will play Liberty on May 28 in the opening game of the Athens Regional during the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Eagles are returning to the NCAA Tournament for the 13th time in program history and their first appearance since 2023. Alongside Boston College, Georgia holds the number-3 overall seed, with Liberty as a three-seed and LIU as a four-seed in this regional bracket.
Boston College enters postseason play after achieving its best regular season ever, recording a program-high 17 wins in Atlantic Coast Conference action and totaling 36 wins overall, which ties for second-most in school history. Notable victories included two against then No. 24 Miami, along with wins over North Carolina (then ranked sixth), NC State (then ranked tenth), and Clemson.
In previous NCAA Tournament appearances, Boston College has an even record of 25-25 over twelve trips. Their last outing was at the Tuscaloosa Regional in 2023, where they went 2-2, defeating Nicholls and Troy before falling to Alabama. In their prior trip during 2016, Boston College advanced from the Oxford Regional but lost to Miami with a spot at the College World Series at stake.
Three players received All-ACC honors following this season: A.J. Colarusso and Nick Wang were named to the third team, while Luke Gallo made the All-Freshman team. Colarusso achieved four league wins across ten starts; Wang led in home runs and total bases; Gallo posted a .350 batting average across all ACC games.
The opening matchup will feature starting pitchers A.J. Colarusso for Boston College (5-4 record) against Ben Blair of Liberty (CUSA Pitcher of the Year). Blair holds a 3.61 ERA with over one hundred strikeouts this season.
Liberty enters with a record of forty-one wins and nineteen losses after finishing runner-up in their conference tournament final against Jacksonville State. Shortstop Tanner Marsh leads Liberty’s offense after being named both CUSA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
