Boston College Baseball will host ninth-ranked Virginia for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series beginning March 27. The games are scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with start times of 3 p.m., 2 p.m., and 1 p.m., respectively, and will be streamed live on ACCNX.
The matchup is significant as Boston College looks to improve its record against a nationally ranked opponent. The Eagles have an all-time record of 11-30 against Virginia and are currently 5-11 at home in the series. Last season, Boston College won three out of four meetings with the Cavaliers, including two out of three games played in Charlottesville and a victory in the ACC tournament where Jack Toomey drove in three runs and Adam Magpoc had three hits.
Virginia enters the weekend with a strong record of 21-5 this season and is ranked ninth nationally. Their offense features AJ Gracia, Harrison Didawick, Sam Harris, and Eric Becker—all batting over .350—with Gracia leading at .368. Harris and Becker each have driven in 31 runs this year while Gracia and Harris share the team lead with eight home runs apiece. On the pitching side, Lucas Hartman and Tyler Kapa hold the lowest earned run averages among starters while Henry Zatkowski leads with 37 strikeouts.
Pitching matchups for the series include A.J. Colarusso facing Kyle Johnson on Friday; Colarusso has a season ERA of 4.08 across nearly twenty-nine innings while Johnson made his season debut recently by striking out two batters in one inning pitched. Saturday’s game features Tyler Mudd (1-2) against Max Stammel (2-1), both carrying ERAs just under five runs per nine innings pitched this year. Sunday’s finale will see Brady Miller take on John Paone; Miller has not yet recorded a decision but has struck out sixteen batters over fifteen innings so far.
In their most recent outings, Boston College swept midweek games against Northeastern (3-2) and Merrimack (12-2). Against Northeastern, Luke D’Ancona contributed six strikeouts over nearly four scoreless relief innings as part of a staff total sixteen strikeouts—a season high for BC pitchers.
Looking ahead after hosting Virginia, Boston College will play Maine at home on March 31 before traveling to North Carolina for another weekend conference series.
