Boston College Baseball announced on April 6 that it will host the University of Massachusetts in the first round of the Beanpot tournament on April 7, followed by a game against Dartmouth College on April 8. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCNX.
These matchups provide Boston College with an opportunity to continue its season against regional opponents, as well as prepare for upcoming conference play. The Eagles currently hold a slight edge over UMass historically, with a record of 23-21 all-time and a home record of 10-12. Last year, Boston College defeated UMass in their only meeting during the Todd Interdonato era, winning 13-6 in the Beanpot Third Place Game. Beck Milner went four-for-five at bat with three runs batted in (RBI), including a solo home run, while Josiah Ragsdale contributed five RBI with an eighth-inning grand slam.
Against Dartmouth, Boston College has an all-time record of 25-10 and is particularly strong at home with a record of 19-6. In their most recent meeting last year in Hanover, Boston College won decisively by a score of 12-2 over eight innings. Five players recorded two RBI each during that game.
UMass enters this week’s contest with a season record of six wins and seventeen losses overall (2-13 in conference play). The team recently lost two out of three games at Northern Illinois but features Anthony Tirado leading offensively with twenty-eight hits and a .359 batting average. Ty Fox leads UMass in RBI while Will Briggs has hit five home runs so far this season.
Dartmouth comes into its matchup against Boston College holding six wins and fifteen losses overall (3-6 Ivy League). Henry Murray leads Dartmouth hitters with a .309 average; Nico Bañez and A.J. DeMastrie have nineteen hits each along with ten RBI apiece.
Most recently, Boston College dropped two out of three games to sixth-ranked North Carolina but managed to win the opening contest behind strong pitching from A.J. Colarusso and Cesar Gonzalez. Gunnar Johnson had notable performances throughout the series going five-for-ten at bat over the weekend.
