Boston College Baseball defeated Maine, 7-4, in a midweek game on March 31 at Chestnut Hill. The Eagles improved their record to 21-9 overall and 8-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Maine fell to 5-21.

The win is important for Boston College as it keeps their momentum going into conference play and highlights contributions from both pitchers and hitters throughout the lineup.

Jacob Burnham started for the Eagles, pitching four and one-third innings with four strikeouts and allowing one earned run. Chase Hartsell came on in relief for one and two-thirds innings, striking out three but giving up two earned runs. Sean Hard finished the game with three scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

Maine took an early lead by scoring twice in the first inning with back-to-back sacrifice flies. Boston College responded in the bottom of the first when Nick Wang drove in Julio Solier to make it a one-run game. The Eagles then took a lead in the fifth inning after Danny Surowiec and Jace Roossien reached base on walks, were advanced by a bunt from Colin Larson, then scored on plays by Solier and Ty Mainolfi.

Maine regained the lead briefly in the seventh inning before Boston College tied it again when Larson was hit by a pitch, advanced on a single by Solier, then scored on Mainolfi’s groundout. In the eighth inning, Jack Toomey led off with a single before Surowiec knocked him home; Gunnar Johnson laid down a bunt to score another run; Solier singled up the middle for another RBI as part of a three-run frame that secured victory.

Looking ahead, Boston College will face No. 6 North Carolina at home Thursday at 6:00 p.m., continuing their schedule within ACC play.
