Boston College Baseball defeated the University of Connecticut in a high-scoring contest, 26-19, on March 10. The Eagles improved their record to 10-6 with the win, while UConn fell to 7-9.
The game saw Boston College take an early lead, scoring eight runs in the first two innings. Ty Mainolfi and Nick Wang were key contributors, with Wang hitting his sixth home run of the season in the first inning. Jack Toomey also added a triple and was brought home by Esteban Garcia’s sacrifice fly.
Drew Grumbles started for Boston College and pitched two and a third innings before being relieved by Jacob Burnham and John D Mitchell. The bullpen combined to hold off UConn despite a late surge from the Huskies. Grumbles earned his second win of the season.
Boston College continued to add runs throughout the game, including five in the second inning and four more in the fourth. Larson hit a two-run home run in the third, helping extend the Eagles’ lead to double digits early on. UConn responded with multiple runs in later innings but could not overcome Boston College’s offensive output.
Wang finished with three home runs and eight RBIs, both single-game highs for him. The Eagles scored in every inning except for the eighth and held off a late rally from UConn to secure the victory.
Boston College will next play NC State on March 13 at 3:00 p.m.
