Boston College women’s basketball was defeated by Florida State 85-76 on Thursday night at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee. The loss leaves Boston College with a record of 4-23 overall and 0-14 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Florida State improves to 9-16 and 4-9 in conference play.
Lily Carmody tied for the team lead with 18 points, making six of her twelve shots from the field and converting six out of seven free throws. She also contributed four rebounds and three assists. Teionni McDaniel came off the bench to match Carmody’s scoring total with 18 points, hitting seven of fourteen attempts.
Erin Houpt added 12 points for Boston College. Athena Tomlinson led the Eagles with five rebounds and four assists.
The Eagles fell behind by as many as 22 points in the second quarter before a nine-point run, sparked by a three-pointer from Houpt, cut the deficit to 13. Late baskets by Carmody and Tomlinson narrowed Florida State’s lead to 48-38 at halftime.
Florida State maintained control in the second half, not allowing Boston College to get closer than six points during the fourth quarter. McDaniel scored four consecutive points with less than a minute left to bring the score to 82-76, but Florida State secured the win at the free throw line.
Boston College will next play Miami on Sunday at noon in Conte Forum.
Carmody, McDaniel, and Houpt accounted for more than half of Boston College’s total points. McDaniel’s 18 points marked her highest scoring performance in an ACC game this season. After making two out of three shots from beyond the arc against Florida State, Houpt is now shooting nearly 47 percent from three-point range this season.
