Boston College falls to Northeastern in regular season hockey finale

Boston College men’s hockey team, ranked No. 13, lost their regular season finale to Northeastern by a score of 4-2 on Saturday at Kelley Rink. The defeat brings Boston College’s overall record to 19-14-1 and their Hockey East conference record to 13-11-0. Northeastern improved to 16-17-1 overall and 11-13-0 in league play.

The Eagles started strong, scoring within the first three minutes after going on the power play. Lukas Gustafsson took a shot from the point that deflected off a Northeastern defenseman’s stick and found the net. Nolan Joyce added another goal for Boston College early in the second period, assisted by James Hagens and Ryan Conmy.

Northeastern responded with a backhanded goal by Jack Pechar midway through the second period. Later in the same period, Giacomo Martino scored a power play goal to tie the game for Northeastern.

After an early third-period media timeout, Northeastern took its first lead when Amine Hajibi scored following a rebound from BC goaltender Louka Cloutier’s pad-save. Martino added his second goal of the night midway through the third period, extending Northeastern’s lead.

According to Boston College records, this game marks their all-time series at 177 wins, 65 losses, and 18 ties against Northeastern.

Lukas Gustafsson scored his sixth goal of the season while Nolan Joyce recorded his second. Ryan Conmy notched his 16th and 17th assists of the year, marking his sixth multi-assist game this season. Andre Gasseau registered his 17th assist and James Hagens extended his point streak to twelve games with his 21st assist.

Boston College will next host Maine in the Hockey East quarterfinals at Kelley Rink on Friday evening with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on NESN.
