Boston College ended its regular season in men’s basketball with a 77-69 win over Notre Dame on Saturday at Chestnut Hill. Four players from the Eagles scored in double figures, with Fred Payne leading the team with 24 points.
The game started with Chase Forte making a steal and scoring on a transition dunk. Aidan Shaw followed with an alley-oop, giving Boston College an early lead. Fred Payne contributed a five-point run, including a three-pointer, but Notre Dame answered back with an 11-2 run to take a nine-point lead late in the first half. The Eagles narrowed the gap by making nine consecutive free throws, and Notre Dame led 33-30 at halftime.
Notre Dame opened the second half by extending its lead to nine points. Boston College responded with Payne hitting a three-pointer and finishing an alley-oop from Forte as part of a 9-0 run that tied the score at 41. Payne later gave Boston College its first lead since early in the game with another deep three-pointer, making it 55-53. The Eagles extended their advantage to eight points through additional baskets by Payne and free throws from Shaw and Forte. Despite Notre Dame’s efforts to rally late in the game, Boston College secured the win.
Fred Payne’s performance included a game-high 24 points—his ninth time this season scoring more than 20 points—along with a career-high five steals and nine rebounds. Other key contributors were Chase Forte (14 points), Jayden Hastings (12), and Boden Kapke (11). The team made 31 free throws during the contest, marking their highest total since playing Wake Forest in 2014.
With this victory, Boston College finished ACC play with four wins and fourteen losses, concluding their regular season at eleven wins and twenty losses overall. The all-time series between Boston College and Notre Dame now stands at 31 wins for Boston College and 17 for Notre Dame.
