Boston College’s men’s hockey team secured a 5-2 win over UConn on Friday night at Kelley Rink. James Hagens led the Eagles with his second hat trick of the season, bringing his goal total to 20 for the year. He has now scored in three consecutive games and in six of the last seven.
The Eagles improved their record to 18-10-1 overall and 12-7-0 in Hockey East play. UConn fell to 17-8-4 overall and 11-6-2 in conference competition. The win also moved Boston College’s all-time record against UConn to 20-8-2.
Hagens opened scoring late in the first period with a power play goal, assisted by Dean Letourneau and Andre Gasseau. He added another goal before the end of the period after a setup from Aram Minnetian and Gasseau. In the second period, UConn responded quickly with two goals from Ryan Tattle and Kaden Shahan to tie the game at 2-2.
Late in the second period, Hagens completed his hat trick on another power play opportunity, assisted by Ryan Conmy and Letourneau. Landan Resendes restored Boston College’s lead midway through the third period after being set up by Gasseau for his third goal of the year. Teddy Stiga sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minutes, marking his fifth tally this season.
Gasseau contributed three assists for his sixth multi-point game this year, while Letourneau posted a career-high three assists as well. Conmy added two assists and has eight assists over his last five games. Louka Cloutier made 21 saves for Boston College.
Boston College will face UConn again tomorrow afternoon at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Connecticut, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+ and WEEI 850 AM.
