Boston College men’s tennis falls to Virginia Tech in ACC matchup

The Boston College men’s tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference match held Sunday morning in Blacksburg, Virginia. With this result, Boston College’s season record stands at 4-4 overall and 0-2 in ACC play, while Virginia Tech improves to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Virginia Tech gained an early advantage by winning the doubles point. The Hokies secured a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles before Boston College’s Aidan Pack and Matthew Overvelde claimed a close victory at No. 2 doubles with a tiebreak score of 7-6 (7-3). The deciding match for the doubles point took place on the top court, where Liam O’Leary and Matvey Greschner lost in a tiebreaker, giving Virginia Tech a 1-0 lead.

In singles competition, Virginia Tech won all six matches. Several contests were closely contested. At No. 1 singles, Mai Gao of Boston College pushed Ilyas Fahim to a first-set tiebreak but ultimately lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Luke Levanat forced a third-set match tiebreak at No. 4 singles but fell short with scores of 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), and 10-5. Matthew Overvelde also had a competitive first set at No. 3 singles before losing his match.

The final score was Virginia Tech seven, Boston College zero.
