Boston College announced on March 27 the hiring of Kate Popovec-Goss as the new head coach for its women’s basketball team. Popovec-Goss, who previously led Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, will become the ninth head coach in the program’s history.
The appointment comes after a period of notable success for Popovec-Goss at Bradley. She increased the team’s win total from four to twenty wins over two seasons and secured a Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) bid—the program’s second postseason appearance ever. During her tenure, several players received Missouri Valley All-Conference honors and all-freshman team selections, including the first Newcomer of the Year honoree in school history.
“Kate Popovec-Goss is a proven winner and transformational leader; we are excited to welcome her to Boston College,” said William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Blake James. “Her track record including recent success in rebuilding Bradley aligns with our vision. We believe she has the drive and experience necessary to lead our program moving forward.”
Before joining Bradley, Popovec-Goss served as Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Northwestern University from 2017 to 2022. The Wildcats made five postseason appearances during her time there and won the Big Ten Tournament in 2020. She was credited with helping secure nationally ranked recruiting classes, including a top-10 class by ESPN in 2021.
Popovec-Goss expressed enthusiasm about joining Boston College: “I am incredibly honored to be named the head coach at Boston College, one of the most prestigious institutions in the country, in one of the best cities in the nation,” she said. “This is a special opportunity, and I’m excited to build a program that reflects the excellence, integrity, and tradition that define BC… I can’t wait to get to work! Go Eagles!”
She holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University and played Division I college basketball at Northwestern as well as at Pittsburgh.
Boston College Athletics will formally introduce Popovec-Goss at an upcoming press conference with details forthcoming.
