Boston College will face No. 17 Virginia at home on Saturday, January 31, on the Edgerley Family Court at Conte Forum. The matchup marks the 32nd meeting between the two programs since their first game in the 1970-71 season. Virginia leads the all-time series with a record of 22-9 over Boston College. Their last contest was on January 21, 2025, when Virginia secured a 74-56 victory in Charlottesville.

In their most recent outing, Boston College lost to Notre Dame, 68-64. Fred Payne led the Eagles with 18 points, while Donald Hand Jr. and Luka Toews added 17 and 14 points respectively.

This season, Boston College has shown strong defensive performance through its first 20 games. The team ranks third in the ACC and 28th nationally in blocks per game (5.1). Jayden Hastings is fourth in individual blocks within the conference with 35, and Aidan Shaw is tied for sixth with 28 blocks. The Eagles also rank among the national leaders in three-point percentage defense and scoring defense.

Fred Payne has made notable improvements during his second full season with Boston College. He has increased his averages in points, rebounds, and assists compared to last year and surpassed his previous season’s total points within just fifteen games this year. “Payne has seen increases in points (+8.2), rebounds (+1.1), assists (+1.8) across 20 games,” according to team information provided by Boston College.

The Eagles have closed out recent home games strongly, including an overtime win against Syracuse and a late comeback against Pittsburgh earlier this month.

Several players have reached career milestones this season: Chase Forte achieved his 1,000th career point during BC’s ACC opener against Georgia Tech; Donald Hand Jr. is approaching that same mark; Aidan Shaw recently played his 100th collegiate game; Caleb Steger and Marko Radunovic made their college debuts at the start of this campaign.

The basketball court at Conte Forum was officially named Edgerley Family Court this season in recognition of Sandra and Paul Edgerley’s contributions to Boston College.

At home this year, Boston College holds an eight-win record from eleven games played on Edgerley Family Court while holding opponents to under 64 points per game on average.

Individually, several players have posted personal bests: Fred Payne recorded seven assists against FAU; Aidan Shaw had fourteen rebounds against Temple; Jayden Hastings registered six blocks versus Clemson; Luka Toews scored twenty-one points against FDU; Boden Kapke set a new high with nineteen points against Pittsburgh.

Fred Payne has scored double figures in sixteen of his last eighteen games and surpassed twenty points five times recently. Donald Hand Jr., Jayden Hastings, and Aidan Shaw have also maintained consistent performances over multiple games.

First-year players Radunovic and Steger are contributing off the bench while newcomers like Kapke, Forte, Asemota, and Shaw combine for significant averages across scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks, and steals each game.
