The Boston College softball team began a long home stand with a non-conference matchup against the University of Connecticut on April 6 at Harrington Athletics Village, with the game broadcast on ACCNX.

This home stretch is important for Boston College as they look to improve their record and build momentum in the latter part of the season. The Eagles currently hold an 11-26 overall record and are 2-10 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

In their most recent games, Boston College traveled to Atlanta where they lost three conference matchups to Georgia Tech. Freshman Emma Knight led her team offensively during that series, posting a .400 batting average, four hits, four runs batted in (RBI), and two home runs. Both Knight and Adriana Martinez homered in the opening game of the series.

Knight has had a strong start to her college career, leading Boston College with 34 RBI and totaling 35 hits so far this season. She recently became just the sixth Eagle ever to hit two home runs in one game and tied Hall of Famer Tatiana Cortez’s single-game mark of seven RBI—a feat last achieved in 2017. Knight now has ten home runs this season and is approaching several school records for both RBI and home runs.

Abby Ptak leads Boston College with a .403 batting average, eleven doubles, forty-eight hits, and sixteen multi-hit games. Ptak also put together a seventeen-game hitting streak earlier this year. If she maintains her current pace above .366 batting average over remaining games, she will enter BC’s single-season top ten lists for batting average as well as potentially for hits and doubles.

Adriana Martinez has contributed six home runs this season—including a grand slam versus Pitt—and recorded six multi-RBI games.

The Eagles are historically close against UConn with an all-time record of twenty-eight wins to thirty-one losses; their last victory came on the road last season. UConn enters this contest on a six-game winning streak after sweeping DePaul and Villanova within Big East play. Cat Patteys leads UConn offensively while Savannah Ring carries an eleven-game hitting streak into this matchup; Jessica Walter holds their best earned run average among pitchers at 4.01 over seventy-three innings pitched.

Looking ahead, Boston College will host Syracuse for three games beginning Friday at Harrington Athletic Village—featuring special events such as Saturday’s first-ever Hit-A-Thon following the afternoon game and Sunday’s annual Strikeout Cancer Game.
