The Boston College softball team lost a close 6-5 game to the University of Connecticut at home on April 7.

The matchup saw Boston College take an early lead, but UConn rallied and ultimately secured the win. The result brings Boston College’s record to 11-27 overall and 2-10 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while UConn improves to 17-22.

Boston College started strong in the second inning with a single from Katelyn Deguire and a bunt single by Kae DePerio, loading the bases after Nicole Riddell walked. Sammy Horn hit into a play that allowed two runs to score due to an error, followed by Emma Knight’s sacrifice fly that brought in another run for a 3-0 Eagles lead.

UConn responded in the third inning with their only two hits of the game, which resulted in five runs. The Huskies added another run in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Boston College tried to rally with hits from Horn, Knight, and Abby Ptak. Ptak and Tavye Borders each drove in a run during this late push but fell short as UConn held on for the victory.

Emma Knight recorded one RBI and is approaching Boston College’s top ten single-season list. Abby Ptak hit her twelfth double of the season. The Eagles totaled ten hits during this contest—marking their eleventh double-digit hitting performance this year—and Kelly Colleran pitched six innings with six strikeouts.

Looking ahead, Boston College will host Syracuse for a three-game series starting Friday at Harrington Athletic Village. Saturday’s game will feature the program’s first Hit-A-Thon event following play, while Sunday will include their annual Strikeout Cancer Game.
