Boston College softball loses to South Carolina in series opener

The Boston College softball team lost 10-2 to No. 23 South Carolina on March 13 in the first game of their weekend series.

The loss puts Boston College at a season record of 10-15, while South Carolina improves to 17-10. The Gamecocks held the Eagles scoreless through five innings and built a six-run lead before Boston College managed to score in the sixth inning.

Nicole Riddell started the Eagles’ offense with a single, followed by Tavye Borders who reached base on a bunt. Janis Espinoza drove in the team’s first run with a sacrifice fly. Emma Knight and Abby Ptak each added hits, allowing Boston College to cut the deficit to 6-2.

South Carolina responded by scoring four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, ending the game early with a final score of 10-2.

Abby Ptak recorded her eighth double of the season during the game, and Emma Knight extended her hitting streak to five games. The teams are scheduled to continue their series with another matchup at South Carolina, set for a 3 p.m. start on SEC Network+.
