The Boston College softball team announced on Apr. 23 that it will travel to South Bend, Indiana, for its last Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) road series of the season against Notre Dame.
This matchup is significant as both teams look to improve their standings before the end of the regular season. Boston College holds a record of 13-32 overall and 3-15 in conference play, while Notre Dame stands at 20-27 overall and 8-13 in the ACC.
In their most recent game, Boston College defeated Bryant University with an 8-0 win in five innings. The Eagles started strong by scoring three runs in the first inning and ended with a walk-off hit from Adriana Martinez.
Sophomore catcher Abby Ptak leads Boston College with a .390 batting average, 14 doubles, and 57 hits this season. She has also thrown out more runners than any other catcher in the ACC this year. Freshman Emma Knight has contributed significantly as well, leading the team with 38 runs batted in (RBI) and recording her second entry into the program’s single-season top ten lists.
Adriana Martinez follows closely behind Ptak and Knight with a .330 batting average and eight home runs. Sammy Horn has been consistent as leadoff hitter, striking out only fifteen times across nearly one hundred fifty at-bats.
As a team, Boston College ranks among its program’s top ten single-season records for batting average (.283), slugging percentage (.433), on-base percentage (.361), and home runs (38). The Eagles are currently fifth all-time for home runs hit by a team during one season.
Notre Dame enters the series ranked tenth in conference standings. Ava Zachary leads their offense with a .390 batting average while Micaela Kastor has pitched over one hundred ten innings this year—fifth most among ACC pitchers—and Kami Kamzik leads their pitching staff with three saves.
Following this road trip, Boston College will return home to host No.12 Florida State for its final regular-season series beginning May 1.
