The Boston College softball team secured a close 7-6 win over James Madison before falling 8-2 to Penn State on the second day of the Hokie Invitational at the James Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.

In the opening game against James Madison, Emma Knight put Boston College on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the first inning. After JMU responded with three runs, Adriana Martinez tied it up for BC with a two-run home run. Abby Ptak hit a double in the third inning, allowing Meghan Schouten to bring in another run and give BC the lead. Despite JMU’s three-run fourth inning, Schouten hit a home run with two runners on base, which proved decisive as neither team scored again.

Against Penn State, Boston College struggled early as PSU took a 5-0 lead by the fifth inning. In their half of the fifth, Nicole Riddell and Kae DePerio each singled and eventually scored on Knight’s infield hit. Penn State added more runs before Knight hit a solo home run late in the game. The contest ended 8-3 in favor of Penn State.

After both games, Emma Knight led Boston College with five hits and also contributed a home run. Meghan Schouten recorded four RBIs for the day while Kelly Colleran earned her first career save against JMU. Home runs were also recorded by Schouten and Martinez.

Boston College will continue play at the Hokie Invitational tomorrow with games scheduled against Bryant and Radford.
