The Boston College softball team is set to face Providence on March 30 in a rescheduled midweek game at Glay Field, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast on FriarsLive.
The Eagles enter the contest with a record of 10-23 overall and 2-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Their most recent outing was a home series against No. 12 Virginia Tech, where they lost all three games. Adriana Martinez stood out during the weekend, hitting .500 and recording a two-run home run in game two of the series. Abby Ptak contributed three hits, including two doubles, while Shannon MacLeod recorded a career-high five strikeouts in the third game.
Ptak currently leads Boston College in several offensive categories, including batting average (.419), slugging percentage (.657), doubles (11), and hits (44). She has also achieved a 16-game hitting streak this season and is tied for tenth place in doubles within the conference.
Martinez continues her strong performance with a seven-game hitting streak after last weekend’s games against Virginia Tech. She has hit four home runs this season, including a grand slam against Pitt, and has four multi-RBI games.
Freshman Emma Knight has made an impact early in her collegiate career by leading the team with 30 RBI and adding eight home runs so far this season. Following the North Carolina series, Knight became just the sixth player in program history to hit two home runs in one game and matched Tatiana Cortez’s program record of seven RBI from that contest.
Providence enters Wednesday’s matchup with an overall record of 14-12 and stands at 7-2 within Big East conference play after winning their recent series over Seton Hall. Offensively, Emily Jonte (.407) and Cameron Dunn (.405) are leading hitters for Providence while Alyssa Twomey and Alannah Hopkins have each pitched a team-high of 39 innings this year.
After facing Providence, Boston College will return to ACC action over the weekend at Georgia Tech.
