Boston College and Long Island University are scheduled to play an elimination game in the 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament on May 30 at Foley Field in Athens, Georgia. The Eagles will take on the Sharks at noon as the road team for the first time this postseason, with coverage available through ESPN+.
Long Island enters the matchup following a strong run in recent years, including clinching its third league championship since rebranding and a dominant performance against Fairleigh Dickinson during the league championship. The Sharks posted significant offensive numbers but struggled against higher-ranked opponents, recording only one win over a current Power Four team since 2024. Their most recent tournament appearance included losses to San Diego State, Jacksonville, Army, and Rider.
The LIU roster features several transfers and homegrown talent. Leading hitter Nick Matson transferred from West Virginia and Lackawanna College before joining LIU for a .364 season. Other key players include Cord Dobrinski from Grayson College and Joe Durso from Hartford Community College. Matthew McGuirk represents local talent who remained on Long Island after high school.
Pitching depth remains a concern for LIU heading into Saturday’s contest. The team’s earned run average was just under seven runs per game entering the national tournament, placing them among the lower third of college baseball teams nationally. Most pitching statistics were compiled against mid-major or low-major opponents.
Weather has affected tournament scheduling across several regions, with rain delays impacting games in Athens as well as Atlanta, Lincoln, Auburn, Tallahassee, Eugene, Tuscaloosa, Chapel Hill, and other sites. Boston College looks to rebound after losing its opening round game to Liberty but showed signs of improvement during that contest.
The winner of Saturday’s elimination game will advance within their regional bracket, while the loser will be eliminated from further competition.
