Boston College men’s hockey team will begin its postseason campaign by hosting Maine in the Hockey East quarterfinals at Kelley Rink, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14. The game will be broadcast on NESN and ESPN+ and can also be heard on WEEI 850 AM.
The matchup is significant as both teams look to advance in the Hockey East tournament. Boston College enters the contest with a 19-14-1 overall record and finished 13-11-0 in conference play, while Maine holds an 18-13-3 overall record and went 12-11-1 in league games. Boston College is ranked No. 17 in the USCHO poll and No. 16 in the USA Hockey poll.
Historically, Boston College has performed well in the Hockey East Tournament, holding a record of 79-38-2 all-time and an 8-5 mark against Maine within the event. In quarterfinal matchups specifically, Boston College has a record of 46-22-1.
The Eagles are coming off two losses to end their regular season, falling to UMass and Northeastern last weekend. James Hagens extended his point streak to a career-best twelve games during those matches, while Ryan Conmy added two assists against Northeastern for a season total of seventeen.
Hagens leads Boston College this season with forty-two points from twenty-one goals and twenty-one assists. Dean Letourneau follows with thirty-five points, including nineteen goals. Nolan Joyce and Lukas Gustafsson are tied for most blocked shots on the team with thirty-six each, while goaltender Louka Cloutier has posted an eighteen-win season with a .909 save percentage.
Several players have received recent honors: Hagens was named Service Credit Union Scoring Leader and earned the league’s Three Stars Award; Luka Radivojevic made the Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team; Will Vote was selected as one of two recipients for the Len Ceglarski Individual Sportsmanship Award.
Maine comes into Friday’s game after losing its regular season finale to Vermont. Brandon Holt leads Maine with thirty-two points, while Justin Poirier tops goal scoring for his team with eighteen goals. Holt was named Hockey East’s Best Defensive Defenseman and shares this year’s Len Ceglarski Individual Sportsmanship Award.
Boston College holds a historical advantage over Maine with a series record of seventy-five wins, fifty-seven losses, and eleven ties. The teams split their regular-season meetings at Kelley Rink last November.
The winner of Friday’s quarterfinal will advance to the semifinals scheduled for next Friday at TD Garden.
