Boston College women’s hockey faces Vermont in Hockey East Quarterfinals

Boston College women’s hockey will begin its postseason on Saturday, hosting Vermont in the Hockey East Quarterfinals at Kelley Rink. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NESN+ and ESPN+.

The Eagles come into the quarterfinals with a three-game winning streak. They finished their regular season with a 4–0 shutout over Boston University, following a 5–2 win against New Hampshire. This will be the third meeting between Boston College and Vermont this season; so far, BC has an 0-1-1 record in the series but secured a shootout win in their most recent matchup. In previous Hockey East Tournament meetings, Boston College has won all four encounters against Vermont.

Boston College has been seeded in the top four of the Hockey East Tournament every year since 2010, which is currently the longest active streak in league history.

In their last two games, Boston College outscored opponents by a combined score of 9-2. Emma Conner led with four points from three goals and one assist, while Maxim Tremblay also contributed four points. Ava Thomas added three points, including a short-handed game-winning goal. Goaltender Grace Campbell earned both wins, maintaining a 1.00 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage with one shutout.

The Eagles have an overall record of 16-17-1 and are 14-9-1 in Hockey East play this season. They have scored 87 goals and average nearly 33 shots per game. Ava Thomas leads the team with 45 points (19 goals, 26 assists). Sammy Taber is second with 28 points; Maxim Tremblay and Emma Conner each have contributed 22 points. Olivia Maffeo has nine goals this season, including three on power plays. Grace Campbell has started all but one game in net for BC, recording a .927 save percentage and four shutouts.

Vermont enters the quarterfinals with a record of 15-16-5 overall and is 9-11-4 in conference play. The Catamounts have scored 78 goals this season, averaging just over two per game. Stella Retrum leads Vermont offensively with 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists), while Rose-Marie Brochu has collected 24 points and leads in faceoff wins. Kaylee Lewis has provided additional offense with four power-play goals among her total of 22 points. Goalie Zoe Cliche holds a .929 save percentage and a goals-against average of 1.82 over her fifteen starts.

Historically, Boston College holds a strong advantage over Vermont with an all-time record of 53-11-7, including a home record of 29-5-4 at Kelley Rink.

Senior Kara Goulding was named as one of the finalists for the 2026 Hockey Humanitarian Award—an honor recognizing leadership in volunteerism and community impact within college hockey circles: “The award recognizes college hockey’s finest citizen for leadership in volunteerism and community impact.” Goulding serves as SAAC president at BC and helped organize initiatives such as the Women’s Hockey HEADstrong Game that raised more than $4,000 to support families battling cancer: “Goulding serves as SAAC president and has led numerous community initiatives, including the Women’s Hockey HEADstrong Game, where BC raised more than $4,000 to support families battling cancer.” The award winner will be announced during April’s NCAA Men’s Frozen Four weekend.

Several players received recognition for their performances this season:
“Emma Conner was named Hockey East Best Defensive Forward after leading the league with 73 blocked shots, a mark that ranks eighth nationally. Her plus-12 rating ranks 12th in the NCAA.”
“Grace Campbell earned the Hockey East Three Stars Award for the second straight season, given to the player who accumulates the most points from first, second and third star selections throughout the year.”
“Ava Thomas and Madelyn Murphy were named First Team All-Hockey East selections. Thomas leads the Eagles with 45 points on 19 goals and 26 assists, while Murphy has recorded 21 points this season.”
“Thomas, Murphy and Maxim Tremblay were each named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, with Tremblay posting 22 points in her freshman campaign.”
“Olivia Maffeo earned Third Team All-Hockey East honors after recording nine goals, including three on the power play.”

Boston College aims to continue its postseason success against Vermont when they meet again on Saturday afternoon.
