The Boston University men’s lacrosse team, ranked No. 15/18 nationally, will travel to face Yale on Saturday at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Connecticut. The match is scheduled for noon and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Boston University comes into the game with a 2-1 record after defeating Dartmouth 13-5 at Nickerson Field last Sunday. In that game, BU held Dartmouth scoreless for the first 38 minutes and built an 11-0 lead. Freshman Peyton Forte scored a career-high five goals, while sophomore Timothy Shannehan contributed six points with two goals and four assists.
Shannehan currently leads the Terriers in goals (9), assists (10), and total points (19). He averages 6.33 points per game, ranking third nationally and first in the Patriot League. His average of 3.33 assists per game is seventh-best in the country. Forte is tied with Shannehan for most goals on the team, and only four freshmen nationwide have a higher goals-per-game average this season.
Senior Connor Kehm was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after recording five caused turnovers and ten ground balls against Dartmouth, both career highs. Kehm also earned a spot on the USILA Team of the Week and became just the fourth player since 2005 to have at least ten ground balls and five caused turnovers in one game.
Junior long-stick midfielder Donald Varnerin scored a notable 60-yard goal against Dartmouth, which was featured as the No. 4 play on SportsCenter. Varnerin has scored in all three games so far this season.
Defensively, BU ranks second nationally by holding opponents to a .654 clearing percentage through three games and is fifth in ground balls per game with an average of 40.
Historically, BU has not defeated Yale in their previous three meetings from 2022 to 2024. Last year, BU lost to then-No. 8/9 Yale by a score of 18-16 at home; their only prior visit to Reese Stadium ended in a 17-14 defeat in 2023.
Yale enters Saturday’s contest with a record of 1-1 after securing a home win over Marist (15-9) earlier this week following an opening loss to Army West Point (12-6). Freshman Sean Grogan leads Yale with five goals after scoring four against Marist. Sophomore Connor Gately has provided four assists—all during the Marist match—and shares the team lead in points with Grogan at six each.
Sophomore Nick Wehmeyer has won twenty out of thirty-eight faceoffs this season and shares the team lead in ground balls (seven) with junior long-stick midfielder Luke Michalik. Senior goalkeeper started against Army West Point, making seven saves; sophomore Ben Friedman started versus Marist and also recorded seven stops.
