The Boston University men’s rowing team competed against Northeastern on April 4, with five crews racing on the Charles River. Three of the four main races were decided by less than one length and under four seconds.
This competition was notable for its close finishes and challenging weather conditions, as temperatures reached the upper-50s and wind gusts created headwinds with varying cross-headwinds before calming past the Mass Ave. Bridge.
The Fourth Varsity 8 crew from Boston University, coxed by Ben Brinckerhoff and stroked by Mason Laundry, led early in their race and maintained their advantage to finish first in 6:08.408. Northeastern’s Fourth Varsity finished in 6:11.579, while BU’s Fifth Varsity came third.
In the Arlett Cup Varsity 8 race at 7:20 a.m., coxed by Emily Slawin and stroked by Alessandro Gardino, Northeastern held a slight lead through most of the course. Boston University made a strong sprint in the final stretch but finished just .523 seconds behind Northeastern with times of 5:51.192 to Northeastern’s winning time of 5:50.669.
Northeastern also won both the Second Varsity (5:57.972 to BU’s 6:08.298) and Third Varsity (6:02.620 to BU’s 6:04.040) races despite strong efforts from Boston University’s crews.
The Terriers will next compete against Cornell at Fish Creek in Saratoga, New York on April 11.
