The Boston University men’s rowing team will face Northeastern in the annual Arlett Cup race on April 4, according to an announcement made on April 3. The event will take place on the Charles River and marks BU’s only home race of the season.
This competition is significant as it serves as the final official home contest for Boston University’s class of 2026. For Northeastern, it is their first race in Boston this spring.
Saturday’s races are scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m., with coverage available live on ESPN+ and Wil Duchesneau providing commentary. Live results can also be accessed through HereNow. The schedule includes races for fourth and fifth varsity eights, varsity eight, second varsity eight, and third varsity eight.
Boston University enters the contest after sweeping Navy in its spring opener on March 29 in Princeton, New Jersey. The Terrier Varsity Eight, ranked fourteenth in the IRCA/IRA Preseason Coaches Poll, finished more than six seconds ahead of twelfth-ranked Navy. All three additional BU crews also won their races by at least four seconds.
Northeastern recently competed at the Benderson Cup during the Sarasota 2K last weekend where its Varsity Eight placed fifth among teams such as Washington, Harvard, Brown, Stanford and Yale. This season they have beaten sixth-ranked Brown and eleventh-ranked Penn but lost to tenth-ranked Yale. Last year at the IRA National Championship Regatta, Northeastern finished ninth overall with its top crew placing second in the Petite Final.
The Arlett Cup rivalry between BU and Northeastern is now entering its sixty-sixth meeting. The Terriers are seeking their first win over Northeastern since 2017 while the Huskies aim for a seventh consecutive victory in this series’ top boat event. In last year’s contest on the Charles River, Northeastern’s first varsity posted a margin of +7.6 seconds with a time of 5:37.5 en route to winning three events.
Looking ahead, Boston University will travel to Fish Creek for a dual race against Cornell scheduled for April 11.
