Five players from the Boston University men’s ice hockey team scored in a 5-3 win over the University of New Hampshire on Saturday night at Agganis Arena. The Terriers, now holding a 14-15-2 record overall and 10-11-0 in Hockey East play, maintained the lead throughout the game.
Sophomore Brandon Svoboda opened scoring for BU at 6:30 in the first period. After New Hampshire tied it up at 11:23, BU responded with second-period goals from sophomore Cole Hutson and freshman Jack Murtagh to establish a 3-1 advantage after two periods. Junior Jack Harvey added another goal just over a minute into the third period. Although New Hampshire scored twice late in the game, sophomore Cole Eiserman secured the win with an empty-net goal.
Svoboda, Hutson, Murtagh, and Eiserman each contributed an assist along with their goals. Junior captain Gavin McCarthy had two assists, while freshman Conrad Fondrk and sophomores Sacha Boisvert and Kamil Bednarik also recorded one assist each.
Junior goaltender Max Lacroix made 24 saves out of 27 shots faced and earned his first win of the season.
The game’s progression saw BU take an early lead through Svoboda’s deflection off McCarthy’s shot. Despite some close calls—including a near-miss by McLaughlin—the Wildcats managed to tie before BU pulled ahead again in the second period with Hutson’s shot off both posts and Murtagh’s end-to-end effort. In net, Lacroix stopped key chances during critical moments.
Harvey extended BU’s lead to three goals early in the third period on a pass from Eiserman during a two-on-one play. A subsequent goal by Eiserman was overturned due to an offside challenge by New Hampshire. The Wildcats closed within one goal after scoring twice late but could not complete a comeback before Eiserman sealed it with his empty-netter.
BU led in shots on goal for all three periods, finishing with a total of 34 compared to UNH’s 27.
According to game notes, BU has improved its all-time record against UNH at Agganis Arena to 18-8-4. Svoboda matched his career high for goals this season, while Eiserman has scored in three of his last four games. Hutson recorded his seventh multi-point performance this year; Harvey logged his third game-winning goal this season and sixth overall; Lacroix earned his second career victory in what was his first non-exhibition start at Agganis Arena.
BU will next host No. 14 Boston College on Friday, February 27 at Agganis Arena for its final regular-season home game before concluding their home-and-home series.
