Boston University men’s ice hockey team advanced to the Hockey East quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory over Vermont on March 11 at Agganis Arena.
The win allows Boston University, seeded sixth, to continue its postseason run and marks the team’s 16th consecutive Hockey East tournament win at home. The Terriers will next face third-seeded UConn in the quarterfinal round.
Sophomore Cole Eiserman led Boston University with three points, including two goals and an assist. Goaltender Mikahil Yegorov made 25 saves. The game was tied at one entering the third period before Eiserman scored his second goal of the night to give BU the lead for good. He later assisted on a power-play goal by Cole Hutson, while Jack Harvey added an empty-net goal late in regulation.
Hutson finished with two points, assisting on Eiserman’s opening goal and scoring in the third period. Captain Gavin McCarthy contributed assists on both power-play goals. Tynan Lawrence and Kamil Bednarik each recorded one assist.
The Terriers went 2-for-3 on power plays and successfully killed both of Vermont’s man advantages. Eiserman has now scored in five straight games, totaling ten points during that span. McCarthy extended his point streak to three games, while Hutson has collected seven points over his last five appearances.
Boston University improved its all-time record against Vermont in league playoffs to four wins and two losses. The team will travel to play UConn in the next round, with puck drop scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
