Nine different players scored for Boston University as the men’s lacrosse team secured a 15-10 victory over No. 20 Navy at Nickerson Field on Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Phillips made 15 saves, contributing to BU’s first win against Navy since 2022 and their opening victory in conference play.
The Terriers’ offense was led by junior Tyler Fox, who tallied two goals and two assists, and sophomore Andrew Pape, who recorded a hat trick. Senior attackman Jimmy Kohr led all scorers with four goals, extending his scoring streak to 21 games. Freshman Peyton Forte added one goal and three assists, marking a career high in helpers.
Other contributors included senior Sam Burns, sophomore Mike Rooney, senior Ethan Hart, short-stick defensive midfielder Charlie Huntley—who notched his first goal of the season—and junior long-stick midfielder Donald Varnerin with his fourth goal of the year.
BU held Navy’s man-up unit to just two goals on eight opportunities. At the faceoff X, sophomore Madden Murphy went 14-for-25 and collected four ground balls. Defensively, junior Logan Styles led BU with three caused turnovers.
After an early exchange of goals, BU built a lead through the efforts of Kohr and Fox. Navy tied the game at 7-7 in the third quarter before Huntley’s goal restored BU’s advantage. The Terriers maintained control for the remainder of the contest.
Phillips’ key saves throughout—including a point-blank stop while down a man—helped preserve BU’s lead late in the game. The Terriers outshot Navy 40-39 and won the ground ball battle 32-29.
“This is the first time since 2023 that BU has opened up conference play with a victory,” according to Boston University Athletics.
Boston University will next travel to face Lehigh on March 7 at 2:30 p.m.
